Marion Plessner Rodrigue, MS, LMHC, LCPC, NCC Adult OCD Therapist

M.S., Licensed Mental Health Counselor – MH13841, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (Maine) – CC7222, National Board Certified Counselor
Diplomate of Cognitive Therapy, Qualified Clinical Supervisor |  Co-Founder & Diplomate of CBT

At GroundWork, I specialize in, and work exclusively with adults who are suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

My treatment approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with an emphasis on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) as well as mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies. Research strongly supports these methods for the treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders.

I became certified in CBT/REBT after completing extensive training at The Albert Ellis Institute in New York City. I have also completed specific training for the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder from the International Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation’s Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) in Houston, Texas and from Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatry Academy, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School.   In addition, I have also received advanced training for the treatment of complex and treatment resistant OCD. Less than 1% of mental health professionals in the country have received this level of specialized training for the treatment of OCD.

I am a Diplomate & Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist through the Academy of Cognitive Therapy; a Diplomate in CBT is awarded to clinicians who have demonstrated expertise in cognitive therapy through a rigorous screening process, there are fewer than 1,000 Diplomates of CBT worldwide.

I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor, a member of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy, the American Counseling Association and the International OCD Foundation. To keep informed of the latest research and treatment approaches, I regularly attend National CBT and OCD conferences and seminars.

My approach to therapy includes planning evidenced-based interventions with my clients that are tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual and incorporates each client’s values. I help clients to understand and manage negative emotions, and build skills to tolerate and decrease anxiety. I offer a warm, non-judgmental environment and approach each client with determination, enthusiasm, and a good sense of humor.

I have experience working with adults who suffer from a wide variety of obsessions and compulsions related to OCD. I have worked with individuals with obsessions related to contamination (e.g. germs, toxins), fears of losing control (e.g. acting on impulse, violent images), fears related to harm (e.g. being responsible), perfectionism (e.g. evenness, exactness, losing things), and unwanted sexual thoughts (e.g. sexual molestation, same-sex, perverse thoughts).

About Me I was fortunate to spend the early years of my marriage as a wife, mother, stepmother and homemaker, living on the family farm in rural Maine.  On that farm, I eventually founded a residential treatment center for troubled teens and acted as the center’s president and director, creating and overseeing all aspects of the program.  I dedicated many years to making the center a world leader in the treatment of struggling teens and restoring family unity by incorporating concepts, therapies and enrichment programs that had never before been merged within a treatment program. I worked with families of troubled teens for many years and discovered a passion for helping individuals who suffer from OCD while working in private practice.  I bring many years of real-life experience as well as numerous degrees and certifications to work for you. I am the proud mother of a successful professional woman, and am the veteran of a 30+year marriage that keeps me both humble and fulfilled.  I remain constantly “in the field”, striving to continually grow and to be thankful, conscious, mindful and present.  An avid yoga enthusiast, amateur chef and wine aficionado, reluctant cardio junkie and voracious reader. I strive to bring my clients the very best tools, empirically supported care, and evidence-based treatment to help them conquer challenges and difficulties.

Education & Certification
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida  (MH13841). I am also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maine (CC7222), and a registered tele heath provider in Vermont.  I am a Diplomate of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with the Academy of Cognitive Therapists; certification and diplomatic status is awarded by the Academy of Cognitive Therapists (ACT) to clinicians who have demonstrated an advanced level of expertise in Cognitive Therapy. I am also a National Board Certified Counselor, through the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).  I have received specific and specialized training in cognitive behavioral treatment for OCD and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) from both the International OCD Foundation’s Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) in Houston, Texas and Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatric Academy.

I am certified in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and REBT from the world-renowned Albert Ellis Institute.  REBT is a pioneering form of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), and teaches individuals to identify, challenge and replace self-defeating belief systems with healthier ways of thinking resulting in greater emotional well-being and goal achievement. I am also an ACPI Certified Parent Coach. I earned a bachelors degree in psychology from California Coast University and a master’s degree in clinical counseling from Grand Canyon University. In addition, I am a qualified clinical supervisor in the state of Florida, able to oversee and supervise the practice of post-graduate therapists seeking full state licensure in mental health counseling.
